L’ Escala is a seaside town south of the Bay of Roses in the
Costa Brava. Once a sleepy fishing village, it’s now one of
the gems of the bay. The town has a festival dedicated to its
famous anchovies. It is close to Empúries, one of the oldest Greek
and Roman settlements on the Iberian Peninsula dating from 580
BC.
Local Facilities
Casa Berjon is about 10 minutes walk to the beach at Riells where
there is a wide promenade with plenty of cafes and bars. The old
town of L’Escala is about 20 minutes walk and has quaint
narrow streets in which you will find more traditional restaurants,
bars and shops.
On a Sunday morning there is a large market along the road into the
old town which is worth a visit.
